ESCLUSIVA
A ROBBIE RIST

DA PARTE DEL NOSTRO
FANCLUB
Ecco qui di seguito un'intervista
esclusiva che ho fatto a Robbie Rist (Asso)!
Milena: You begun your career as
an actor when you were a child, did that influenced your
childhood?
Robbie: Yeah it did. A Lot. Kid actors have a
completely different life than 'normal' kids. It's close
to a kid who is in gymnastics or some other sport where
you start really young. But even at that, it's still a
crazy world to thrust a kid into. I'm not opposed to
parents putting their kids in entertainment (if the
parent is doing it for the right reasons) but man, you
better be prepared if you are gonna.
Milena: Which are the actors/musicians you worked
with, you'd like to work again?
Robbie: With very few exceptions I would work
with any of them. I have been very lucky in that I have
met really very few douchebags in my career.
Milena: I know you still do a lot of things,
which are your desires and prospectives for the future?
Robbie: Well, I am just finishing construction on
my recording studio (ValleyHollah Studios) so I
am looking forward to producing more bands. Last year I
produced a bunch of bands including Steve Barton and The
Oblivion Click (www.myspace.com/stevebartonmusic),
Slapdash (www.myspace.com/slapdashus),
Suzy and Los Quattro (www.myspace.com/suzyandlosquattro)
and Kingsizemaybe (www.myspace.com/kingsizemaybe).
I also produced a low budget horror film called Stump
The Band (www.stumptehband.com).
I also teach acting and music, produce people's voice
over demos....I guess my ultimate goal is to be a
touring musician/producer like Nick Lowe but I also
enjoy film (I am producing and directing a web series
called Mr. Happy that should be premiering in the fall
as well as developing a full length haunted house movie
and a cartoon series based on my life as a 'd' list
celebrity) and doing voice over stuff (I was
Michaelangelo in the Tennage Mutant Ninja Turtles live
action films)....so who knows? I am an entertainment guy.
I just want to do entertainment stuff.
Milena: Are there some fun or particular episodes
you remember while shooting Kidd Video's videos?
Robbie: I remember KV as two....maybe three jobs
in one. I got to work with incredible voice actors (Michael
Bell being one. The man is near legendary here in
America even though most people of a certain age wouldn't
know his face. He was a talking tub of margarine that
was on commercials all through the 70s as well as
countless other voice jobs), I got work on-camera with
an incredibly talented director (Bud Schaetzle), and Got
to sing with some of the best studio musicians that El
Lay ever produced. I was also in my early 20s, on a
successful series, working all of the time.....it was
really good. There were ego issues and, since it was
Haim Saban's first American tv project, he didn't know
that we actually had RULES that he had to follow
which led to some irritiation on his part. We also put
in long hours. But it was pretty great all in all.
Milena: What was your favourite
song in KV?
Robbie: It's Over When The
Phone Stops Ringing. I am a total sucker for power pop
songs ABD the video has hot girls in lingerie. How
awesome is that?
Milena: Where did you film the
"easy love" video?
Robbie: Easy Love was filmed about
2 hours out of Los Angeles near a town called Lone Pine.
Milena: do you remember something
about the tour (if it was so....) you made in Israel
with KV? Some reminders about??
Robbie: yeah.
We went to Israel a couple of times. Some truly amazing
stuff in that country. Floating in the Dead Sea,
climbing Masada, playing next to the great wall of
Jerusalem.....the shows were like Beatlemania, screaming
girls, sold out shows. We were at first surprised that
there was so much MERCHANDISE available that wasn't in
America (candy bars, bedsheets, rdios with our
likenesses on them).. But, then again, Haim was Israeli
and had the business pretty much sewn up there.
I wanna go back there one day.
Milena: Are you still in touch with the other
members of the band? What should you say to italian fans?
Any news from them?
Robbie: I still talk to Steve Alterman on
occasion. I haven't talked to Bryan Scott in a while (you
know, the cute one) and Gabby has all but disappeared
from the face of the planet. I keep trying to hunt her
down but can't find her. Anyone else have any leads?
To the Italian fans I gotta say thanks for keeping the
fire burning. It's strange to think that it's been over
20 years since I did that show and to know that there are
still people who enjoy it makes me really proud. Like we
did something that had value. So....thank you.
News from the fans? They can contact me anytime they
want!....if that was the question you meant....
Milena: If someone would give you the purpose to
go back on tv with the other members of Kidd Video for a
show, or put on together a project, would you be
interested in that?
Robbie: Of course! I am always looking for work!
Milena: Are you satisfied with your career?
Robbie: Yeah. I think I occupy a unique space in
entertainment that no one else really has.
There could always be more money, I guess....
Milena: What do you use to do in your spare time?
Any interests, besides of music?
Robbie: My spare time is pretty much work time. I
am lucky in my hobbies are also my job. And I have
enough of them I never get especially bored. At some
point I want to learn a wind or brass intrument, maybe
start painting again......finish that book i have been
wanting to write....
Milena: What do you think about the websites
dedicated to KV? Do you like them or would like to
change something or add something to?
Robbie: I think it's amazing that people are
still interested in a gig I did over 20 years ago. And I
think the sites I have seen show a real knowledge and
appreciation for the material. I have fanboy leanings
for things myself so I know what it's like to really be
into something.
Milena: Would you be interested, while in Italy,
on meeting your fans here?
Robbie: Of course. I was in Rome doing a job in
my early 20s (I was there for 4 months) and just loved
it. I saw some other towns around there like Sperlonga
and the town where BACI candy comes from.....Everyone
was very warm and friendly. So, I like Italy, I like
Italians.....if I ever find myself there, please
come up and say hello!
Fine
Robbie ti aspettiamo di nuovo a
Roma!
